It may be a surprise to know that Ireland is home to 71 species of sharks, skates, and rays, 58 of which are on Ireland’s Red List of Threatened Species. Tralee Bay is a “jewel in the crown” of Irish marine life and home to some of the rarest shark, skate and ray species in Europe. We meet the researchers tracking and tagging sharks to help better understand and protect these amazing creatures. And in part two of the episode, we leave the surf behind and head for the turf of Wicklow, to meet the data scientists using AI and satellites to monitor our precious peatland and protect Ireland’s extraordinary natural resources.
